By Joanne Yap

From little kids to grown-ups, who doesn't love the excitement of looking for that special something that will bestow immense wealth or power? All great fantasy movies have been about reading clues and searching for the key. National Treasure will keep you riveted from start to end.

If you love thrillers, you'll enjoy National Treasure. Jerry Bruckheimer returns for another high-octane ride that is not merely all blasts and car chases but also full of fascinating plot twists.

With a nose for what appeals and a risk-taking streak, just look at the phenomenal success that was Pirates of the Caribbean - Bruckheimer surprises again, this time banking on the drawing power of America's history and rich heritage. The story's intriguing premise is the existence of treasure hidden centuries ago by the country's Founding Fathers.

Legend speaks of a colossal war chest that Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson buried at the end of the American Revolutionary War, with eight generations of the Gates family having ventured forth in search of the treasure's secret hiding place to no avail.

Starring the brooding Nicholas Cage as Benjamin Franklin Gates, a treasure hunter and descendant of a privileged family of archivists, treasure hunters and historians, the young Benjamin is groomed by his grandfather from childhood to take on the enormous responsibility placed on his shoulders.

But our hero is a reluctant one. When the growing number of clues start pointing to a map invisibly inscribed on the back of the American Declaration of Independence, Ben's partner Ian Howe suggest that they steal the document from the National Archives. Friends soon become foes as Ben tries to inform the disbelieving authorities of the impending theft only to have to foil Ian's plans alone.

With the secret revealed and the treasure threatening to fall into the wrong hands, it is up to Ben to try to piece together the pieces of the puzzle to salvage this important and defining artifact of the country's history.

Ben's situation soon becomes one of necessity rather than choice as he comes into possession of the Declaration. To add interest, Abigail Chase, an archivist who finds herself at the wrong place at the wrong time, is pulled in for the ride as Ben's accomplice and helping hand.

The two leads find themselves deciphering the inscrutable codes in order to unlock the mystery that surrounds the resting place of the treasure and get to it before Ian does. Codes that are deceptively obvious, from monuments within capital city Washington, to the hidden signs and Masonic symbols on the iconic green US dollar bills.

The 2,000 year-old National Treasure holds a truth hugely detrimental if in the hands of those who intend to use power and supremacy for their own gain. All the while eluding the FBI and struggling to keep up and beat his nemesis Ian at his game, Ben with Abigail are led by clues across three states in a race to protect the treasure of the American people.
