On with the show

November promises to be a good month for motoring fans as the biennial Singapore Motorshow will be held from 11 - 22 November 2004 at Suntec City . In addition to the usual suspects of automobile launches and displays of concept cars, the show will include a vintage car exhibit from Mercedes, a regional robot-racing competition and adrenaline-pumping performances by world-renowned stunt-driver, Russ Swift.

Close to a hundred exhibitors will be part of the motor show and visitors can expect to see prime offerings from the major manufacturers, and from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lotus, Maserati, Porsche and Rolls-Royce. Gilera, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Piaggio, Vespa and Yamaha will represent the two-wheeled fraternity.

Also in the lineup is a RoboGP staged by Temasek Polytechnic. This is an exhibition of locally-built race cars by National University of Singapore (NUS) students, which will not only encourage enthusiasts in pursuing their interests, but also educate the public on automotive technology.

"This year's show is more than just cool cars," says Chia Yong Sian, president of the Motor Traders Association of Singapore. "We have exhibits and activities that cater to various age groups and different tastes. We also have a few surprises up our sleeve which will definitely wow visitors and make it worth their while to visit the show."

Held over two public holidays, Deepavali and Hari Raya Puasa, the motor show is expected to attract more than 150,000 local and foreign visitors. A Subaru Impreza and a Honda Innova 125 are up for grabs in the grand lucky draw.

Tickets for the motor show are priced at $10 and $4 for adults and children respectively. Limited tickets to the special preview on 10 November are available at $20. More information at www.motorshow.com.sg.

Over land, over sea

The concept cars are always a draw. Splash by Rinspeed Design is perfect for anyone with a marina home. The world's first amphibious vehicle will take you from land to water effortlessly. Made in Switzerland and environment friendly, it makes its debut appearance in Asia at the Singapore Motorshow. This James Bond-type accessory is a 825 kg sports car which can achieve a top land speed of 200 km/h. Hit a button and it transforms into a hydrofoil traveling at an altitude of 60 cm above water with a top speed of 80 km/h.

Nice bodywork! Lots to ogle at the Singapore Motorshow.
