For alternative music, stop at WKRZ, the station with The Most Music. Nobody plays it better, and with a brand new program line-up, there's more scintillating sounds to look forward to this year.

By Joanne Yap

What can you expect of guys and gals who walk to a different beat? It's an odd bunch that has gathered at the studios of WKRZ, but as these guys prove, odd is certainly working in their favour.

Three WKRZ DJs share thoughts on copycat rivalry, funny on-air moments and death defying past times!

K.S. Lee

They say imitation is the best form of flattery. K.S. Lee should know. The host of Urban Lounge, one of the longest standing niche programs on radio, K.S. views competition from the newly established station Lush as banking on an established and saleable format.

Not the least unnerved by a new competitor in a similar market, K.S. is confident of WKRZ's standing with this genre of music. After all, similar programs like X Ho's Hip Parade and A-trax caused a stir when they were launched but have since faded from the scene. Urban Lounge, he believes has a unique winning formula.

For two hours every Thursday night, listeners can expect a diverse selection of chillout, electronica and indie-dance tracks from lesser-known but quality acts like Loco, Thievery Corporation, St Etienne and DJ Cam, the kind of refreshing mix that is the station's trademark.

Jensen Ho

For someone who loves music and has been a loyal listener of WKRZ since was Heart 91.3FM, Jensen reckons he's landed himself the ideal job. "Every day is a memorable experience in which I learn new things. I'm on top of the world, and I have the best job which I love!"

Yes, he's that crazy about his work, and you can hear the enthusiasm on the Evening Rush program he hosts. But Jensen's entry into radio was rather accidental.
When Heart 91.3 organized a DJ course back in 1999, Jensen signed up, hoping to pick up tips on how to mix music like a club DJ. But as fate would have it, the course turned out to be one on radio presenting instead, eventually landing him a gig hosting the weekend shifts at Heart.

Embarrassing moments? Well, there was the time the 27-year-old didn't realize he was airing loud and clear. "The microphone fader was accidentally up, and I started rambling with my friend about what he did the night before" - he was drunk and couldn't remember!"

Marilyn Lee

Marilyn loves an adrenaline rush. She gets it from watching Formula One racing, horse racing and sailing. The host of Siesta Fiesta has even done a 50 m bungee-jump. But the TV and sports buff is equally happy watching cooking shows. Her favourite eats - steak, salad and créme brulee.

And she's really down to earth when it comes to other things.

"It's remarkable how much time we spend in the company of people, its best to spend it wisely, either learning, loving, laughing or sharing. When my heart breaks or my walls crumble, it's the relationships in my life that help me to focus and rebuild."

Away from her job, Marilyn also finds comfort and solace in art. "At trying times I also turn to art and music. I never cease to be inspired by art and uplifted by music. Some of my favourite memories of all time have their own soundtrack."

Siesta Fiesta by Marilyn Lee, Weekdays 3 to 6pm
Evening Rush by Jensen Ho and Shou Chen, Monday to Thursday, 6 to 10pm
Urban Lounge by K.S. Lee, Thursdays 8 to 10pm & WKRZ Countdown, Fridays 8 to 9pm
